Hello there, sit back and check out what has been going on with Rice Picker Entertainment |
Green Lantern took flight this week and took interest in many people. Unfortunately a huge percent of these people disliked the movie. Was it really that bad? I went out to watch the movie myself and I found very little to hate about it. Of course all movies have people who like/dislike it, but Green Lantern seems to be a bigger disappointment to the viewers. Why is that?
In my opinion, I think our society has too high of expectations for superhero movies. I guess the reason is because of how many comic book hero movies are coming out that it does get a little old. But here’s a little observation, the latest superhero movies that came out were sequels (Iron Man 2, X-men: Origins, X-men: First Class, The Dark Knight). These movies were mostly good because the creators had a little more room to add more action and plot twists rather than developing character.
I felt that Green Lantern was trying to focus more on the development of who Hal Jordan is and how he becomes the Green Lantern; that is why there was some mediocre fighting and cheesy things within the movie. Sure I do wish there was a bit more fighting and action in it, but then I remembered that there’s more to a movie than just action. Society is starting to expect too much from movies now. They expect it to follow the pattern of this: hero comes in, villain appears, hero and villain fight, hero downfall, hero and villain fight, villain dies, hero lives to fight again. That’s a lot to expect from a superhero movie, especially one who isn’t well known. This movie is a perfect kick-off to a new series because it sets up who Hal Jordan is and his inner battle to becoming a Green Lantern.
All in all, look past the basic idea of what a superhero movie should be by looking past the black and white details and finding the little plots for a sequel.
OVERALL RATING: Above Average, some things could be changed but nothing major.
